Cambridge

Cambridge is a city located in the East Anglia area of England and is the main town of Cambridgeshire. It is well known for being the host town of the University of Cambridge, being among the most famous and revered Universities in the world. Travellers arriving into the city will easily spot King’s College Chapel and the Cambridge University Library on their way into town. It is a small-sized city with a population of over 100,000, and shares many neighbouring towns in the Cambridgeshire region.

The city began building up around 2,000 years ago, where its Castle Hill was used as a military outpost; the town’s popularity and good location served well to increase its population and development, and its history is still seen by its residents and visitors.

"Silicon Fen"

As a University town, much of the history and culture of Cambridge is focused directly on the development of its many academic halls, but today it offers much more. Another more modern side of Cambridge that is becoming increasingly popular is its “Silicon Fen” area, where there are a great number of technology- and science-related businesses operating in a particularly dense area. Anybody working on careers in similar fields can therefore find plenty to offer here in Cambridge.

Outside of this area, however, the most notable buildings belong to the University of Cambridge. Its town is, however, expecting further expansion and development to cater for a growing population, including more entertainment (such as an ice rink), and the number of houses are increasing consistently.

Those who enjoy the sights and sounds of the nation’s capital, London, can also benefit from a life in Cambridge. At 50 miles away, it is possible to get train connections to and from Liverpool Street and King’s Cross on a regular basis; useful for any events which only take place in London and distant cities. Starting or prospective international students also need not worry about access to the town as it is possible to fly directly to Marshall Cambridge Airport. Getting about the town is an easy experience, too. New visitors may be surprised at the number of bicycles used here, and as such has been labelled as one of the few “cycling cities” of the UK.

Its active student culture has sparked many different interests and hobbies among many, and so the city enjoys a variety of the biggest and most interesting sports, including football, rugby and of course, rowing.

Cambridge is also responsible for many great contributions to the arts. The Arts Theatre has proven to be very popular over the past 200 years and shows no signs of dying; today, its guests enjoy many quality plays, dance performances and music performances.

For student life, Cambridge will offer everything you need. Markets, local shops and supermarkets are found all over town, and there are plentiful pubs and clubs for socialising. Not only that, but Cambridge strives to offer truly local events: annually the town centre hosts the Cambridge Beer Festival, the Cambridge Folk Festival, the Cambridge Music Festival, as well as multiple fairs to be enjoyed by students and families alike.
