The city of Bristol is famous for its proximity to the sea on the western coast of England, which has shaped much of its culture and economy. It is a very big city with a population of 4,000,000, so its residents always have something in their interests to do.
All those who visit or study in the city regularly enjoy its fabulous and vibrant nightlife, with no lack of things to do during the day, either: the city hosts several festivals and carnivals which attract many tourists and travellers. There's also plenty of parks to relax in throughout the year and no end of museums and art galleries to visit. Bristol has a very media-oriented business structure, visible to anybody walking through the heart of the city. Those who are just visiting will want to have a look at the Bristol Water Maze, Goldney House, Georgian House and the Bristol Industrial Museum – and that's just a start.
However, many of Bristol's residents are also students currently studying at the University of Bristol. This University is renowned for maintaining its standards of excellence, with many significant alumni and professors as part of its legacy. It focuses heavily on independent research skills and critical thinking, assisting its bright students to think outside the box and think of innovative new ways to make breakthroughs in research and development in many different fields. It also takes on many international students, and has a focus on transparency; a unique quality compared with other UK Universities.
As Bristol is a large city with plenty to do inside and outside the University campus, student life is certainly one of the highlights of choosing the University of Bristol as your place of study. There are thirteen libraries with full access to millions of books, journals/research papers and other facilities. The University-wide IT facilities are also more than adequate, with a huge number of computers available for use.
There are also useful sports facilities in its sports centre, which contains large indoor fitness studios with a focus on exercise, sports and general health. Under the general health services also lies health care for any of its students in need of a check-up or any medical attention.
For socialising, however, there is little need to look out into the city when looking for a quick pint or somewhere to wind down after a days' study. The Students' Union in Bristol has three bars available throughout the day, although those wishing to explore new places will also not have a problem investigating the many different pubs found around Bristol. The Elbow Room, Las Iguanas and The Bowl Inn are three excellent examples to get you on your way to finding the best of Bristol's drinking culture. Take a look at the harbour area at night time, where the clubs come to life with many different types of music to dance the night away.
Fortunately, Bristol is a very readily accessible city, with two major motorways passing close to the city, as well as a significant train station easily connecting the city to the south-west region, Wales and many major cities in the UK.
