Uxbridge

Uxbridge is a large town situated in the northwest area of London, the capital of England and the UK. Originally a part of the area of Middlesex, after an increase in popularity the site became a borough in 1955.

It is home to a hugely booming business area, with many big economic centres nearby. Those looking to pursue a career in finance, IT or business could potentially find many vacancies in the area; a foresight to prosperity for Uxbridge and its people. The large and widely-used Heathrow airport is also near the area.

A Modern University

Uxbridge is home to Brunel University, one of the more modern Universities founded in the 1960s. It took only until 1966 to grant the title of University to the campus after being formerly known as a technological college. Along with the borough, the University began to expand and take on many new students, which has now meant the University departments are now split over different areas of West London. It has a wide variety of courses to choose from, so the University is welcoming to people from any background, home country or desired career path.

As Brunel University is in London itself, there is always something to do; in fact, it would be difficult to ever find oneself running out of activities or places to explore in the area, considering the sheer amount of historical, informative, enjoyable or entertaining places to visit and experience. This goes from museums to shopping and everything in between – cinema, pubs, nightclubs, sports and more.

If you are one to enjoy a good shop, then you’ll find great local businesses selling homemade goods to big supermarkets containing everything you need for your weekly shop. The diversity of the area’s residents reflects on its dining culture, too; there is no end of interesting and varied restaurants to try out during your study here.

For those who prefer to spend their time with a more active lifestyle, then you can check out some of the many fitness centres around the area too, which have also been increasing in popularity not just in London, but all over the country.

Being in the western side of London, however, it’s also important to check out some of its more distinct features. For example, Oscar Wilde’s house, located along the Thames, is open to the public, while Kensington Gardens is also open to make for an interesting and peaceful day out.

Visiting the Borough

If you are just visiting Uxbridge (perhaps you would like to have a look before deciding to apply for a degree), you can stay in one of the many different hotels located there, from cheaper hotels, to bed & breakfasts and high-quality hotels for total comfort. These hotels will provide you with even more great services while you stay, so you’ll never end up bored, even after a day full of exploring the area.

For getting into the area itself, the nearest airports for international travellers are Heathrow and Gatwick, and there is adequate public transportation into the borough from both airports. For driving directly into Uxbridge, the A40 road leads directly through, though you will need to check which motorways join on to it, depending on your origin.
